The orchid family is one of the two largest families of flowering plants which explains their wide variability in flowers. To date, there are approximately 28000 species of orchids, most of which are colourful and fragrant. Orchids have many additional uses on top of being a pretty and fragrant flower. A commonly used ingredient in baking, Vanilla is the dried seed of an orchid genus. Orchids are also recorded to be used in traditional medicine to help treat diabetes.
Orchids generally represent love, luxury, beauty, and strength. In traditional Chinese culture, the orchid is considered ‘feng shui’ plant and is believed to bring prosperity and good luck.
