Because she was able to take this leap of faith, Patricia\nhopes to see others do the same, especially the younger generation who are\nunder pressure to excel. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said in a Straits\nTime article<\/a>: \u201cIn Singapore, children are often taught that failing\nis a no-no. It may be easy to feel pressured to stay in your current\njob if it\u2019s stable and to ensure that you meet societal expectations. To\nreiterate what Patricia had said in her interview, venturing out into the\nunknown and taking on the challenge of becoming a florist is a great learning\nopportunity. What\u2019s your story?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After graduating with a degree in social work,\nI worked in a local VWO dealing with family violence. I love my work and I\nlearnt so much but I knew I had to do something on my own after I finished my\nbond.  I toyed with a few ideas and\nrealised that I was really good with flowers after going to classes as respite\nfrom my work. I also got to know a fellow social work classmate\u2019s program who\ntrains low-income ladies in floral arrangement. At that point of time, I just\nfelt like I\u2019d found a perfect match.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What excites you most about your industry?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working with new flowers, new styles and\nmeeting new people. It\u2019s really exciting and challenging to constantly innovate\nand think of new ideas to make each wedding as unique as possible for the\ncouples.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, it\u2019s really fun to have the daily\nopportunity to experiment, to create and to develop my own signature style in\nfloral design.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practice makes perfect but what many don\u2019t realise is that it also builds up one\u2019s confidence to try. Here\u2019s what a florist business owner for 18 years, Jerry Lee has to say a t: \u201cYou just have to try. Once you push yourself to try, that\u2019s the first step towards learning and progressing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His words are true as it\u2019s not so much about overcoming the\nhurdle and challenge immediately but being resilient and brave enough to want\nto try. What is the pay like as a florist? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re keen to make the switch but am worried about the\ndifference in pay \u2013 don\u2019t worry. Florists and even budding florists do earn a\nfair and decent amount as well! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the recruitment website \u201cIndeed.com.sg\u201d,<\/a>\nthe average salary for a Florist is $2,256 per month in Singapore. Generally, apprentice\nflorists\u2019 pays start from $1,200 monthly. These are for apprentices who usually\nstudy and work as they earn experience during apprenticeship. Some part-time\nflorists also earn about $1,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florists with around two years of commercial experience\nwould probably get an average of about $2,000. For those more senior florists\nwith three years of experience and above, they would be able to command about $2,500\nonwards depending on the scope of work, responsibilities and commitment level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florists with supervisory and managerial responsibilities\ncan easily earn between $2,300-$3,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s worth considering and pursuing a career as a florist.\nThough the salary may be lower than some corporate jobs, the intangible rewards\nof enjoying your job far outweighs the tangible benefits of a job. If you have\na love for flowers and you\u2019re looking to find job fulfilment, floristry may\njust be the right path and career for you to pursue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
