Brassica is a members of this genus are collectively known either as cabbages or mustards. Crops from this genus are sometimes called cole crops, a phrase derived from the Latin caulis, meaning stem or cabbage. The Brassica group includes many familiar vegetables and “flowers” such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collards, kale, rutabaga and turnip — some grown specifically for their ornamental leaves. Brassica as some may regard it as ‘gorgeous’ cabbage.
Brassica come in three basic colours — greens, creamy whites and violets. They have tough stems and leaves and they remain fresh as cut “flowers” for a solid week, making them a wonderful option for floral arranging and each bloom is sizable enough to make a hand bouquet – like the one below – we used a large purple brassica mixed with wild colored flowers, nosa, purple caspia with iron leaves. We peel the outer layers of leaves back, one at a time. Carefully working the same towards the many bulk in the inner petals. By doing so, it accentuates the already beautiful brassica to it majestically blooms. This give that unique and sophisticated look. It stir up the drama factor ten fold.
